The continued roll-out of high-speed internet connectivity worldwide is driving a change in viewing habits. In addition to watching scheduled television, people are increasingsly consuming movies and series via a range of video on demand services. These services are primarily differentiated by the size and quality of their catalogue, and until now the options available in South Africa have been limited in comparison to those available overseas. On 19 August, ShowMax launches a new video on demand service that is a giant leap forward in the range of content available to local consumers.
At launch, ShowMax has content adding up to more than a year’s continuous viewing of series, movies, documentaries, a wide selection of children’s shows, and an array of classics. Complete box sets of heavyweight series such as Entourage, Game of Thrones, and The Wire form the foundation of the service, and ShowMax brings new shows such as “The Late Late Show with James Corden” to the South African audience. The content catalogue, which totals more than 10,000 hours, spans major production studios from across the globe as well as local African content. This brings ShowMax customers two unique benefits – a library many multiples larger than those currently available via local services, and also African content not available via services originating outside the continent.
ShowMax is available via a wide range of smart devices with an Internet connection. This includes mobile phones and tablets via iOS and Android apps, laptop and desktop computers using a range of web browsers, and Samsung and LG smart TVs.
John Kotsaftis, General Manager of ShowMax South Africa said: “We’re unashamedly ambitious in what we’re aiming to achieve with ShowMax. The ongoing change in viewing habits has given us the opportunity to build a video on demand powerhouse to feed the marathon viewing trend. We’ve got all the best content from Hollywood and beyond, but at the same time we also have the local content that consumers here expect. Importantly, we’re bringing this in at an attractive price, and doing this across more devices than ever before.”
ShowMax is offering a seven-day trial period, with free access to the entire library in order to test the service. The ongoing cost of subscription is R99 per month, which allows access via five different devices. Two different video streams may be watched simultaneously on separate devices using the single monthly subscription. More information is available via www.showmax.com.
“We’re aiming to change the game. ShowMax won’t just be the best subscription video on demand service available in South Africa - we’re competing with the best in the world”, concludes Kotsaftis.
Combining more than 10,000 hours of international hit movies and series as well as the best home-grown content, ShowMax delivers a truly world-class subscription video on demand service. With a catalogue spanning major production studios from across the globe, for just R99 per month ShowMax takes content to a new level, giving local consumers the widest range of video entertainment for their smart devices. ShowMax aims to be Africa’s video on demand powerhouse blending local knowledge and international expertise to give an unparalleled video entertainment experience.
When Hamleys first started selling toys in London, Westminster Bridge had just opened to traffic – horse and cart that is – and gas lights would not illuminate the city’s streets for another half a century. The year was 1760.
William Hamley filled his cramped Holborn shop with every toy he could find – the sort of toys that would make a child smile from ear to ear, the sort of toys that define a generation.
His dream was to own the finest toy shop in the world.
And so Hamley’s first toy shop was a treasure trove of rag dolls and tin soldiers, hoops and wooden horses, he even called it the ‘Noah’s Ark’, so brimming was it with goodies!
Today, with over 255 years of experience in bringing smiles and laughter to children, Hamleys is known and trusted all over the world.
Hamleys rich history began with William Hamley, a Cornishman from Bodmin, England. William Hamley dreamed of “The Finest Toy Shop in the World” when opening his toy shop at Holborn, London in 1760.
Today, Hamleys extends significantly further than the famous London toy shop, with millions of
families visiting our toy shops around the world and will be heading to South Africa in August 2015.
As a unique brand they love creating experiences and memories for their customers by bringing toys to life. "We are proud to be creating an environment that is enjoyable, fun and exciting for children and adults alike!"
If you think back to when you were a child you will remember that incredible feeling of excitement you felt upon entering a toy shop; the bursting anticipation and uncontrollable smile that spread from ear to ear and a longing to run from corner to corner and take it all in. This feeling is every day, from the moment the Hamleys doors open, a world of wonderment and excitement is released and our job of delivering the Hamleys Experience begins: whether it is getting a high five from Hamley Bear, meeting some of your favourite characters, taking part in a toy demonstration or attending one of our special events.
The toys may have changed, but if he were here today, we're sure William Hamley would recognise the same delighted faces as he guided you round the shop he dreamt of as a boy.
Welcome to Hamleys,The Finest Toy Shop in the World!
Opening at Greenstone Mall August 20th 2015.
The Pudding Shop...one of Johannesburg's gems!
It is located in Parktown North at number 43, 7th Avenue and if you were driving by and blinked, you may miss it...but best you don't.
This delightful eatery prides itself on the freshest and best quality ingredients coupled with the love and care of each dish which is carefully prepared by Chef Zeus and his team. The Pudding Shop does not just offer what its name says, it is a combination of Italian, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean with most of the dishes on offer of the vegetarian or vegan variety.
The establishment is set on the side of an existing popular Italian restaurant and has been cleverly put together making one feel as though one could be outside when in fact one isn't. The ivy growing on the inside of the walls brings a certain charm and European country feel to the room.
The Pudding Shop offers breakfast and lunch daily with the menus offering an ample appetising selection including tasting plates which are perfect if you can't make up your mind completely. If you are there for breakfast, an omelette is a must, the best in town!
The drinks list offers the basics, with the wine list more than sufficient with some great vineyards to choose from. For starters the crumbed olives in a hummus pesto sauce are something that you will never have tasted and the dish will have you wanting more. The main courses on offer are so diverse, I found it hard to choose, but settled for the lasagna which took me out into the country with its robust root vegetables and Zeus' secret red sauce...you have to try this! The fishcakes are also a must taste, as they melt in the mouth, served with the most delicious rustic mash.
Of course, the pudding is something to behold! One can choose from what is on offer on the night or day of your visit. The apple German cake won our hearts to end off our Full Moon Feast.
So, if you are looking for somewhere to have a breakfast with the girls, perhaps a lunch meeting in calming surroundings or a spectacular night out under the full moon with someone special...look no further than The Pudding Shop.
