Cruises International recently announced The Luxury Collection to guests at an exclusive invite-only event at Mesh Club on the Keyes Arts Mile in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
The theme of the evening was ‘What is your idea of luxury?’
Guests were posed this question and presented with many points to ponder on and expand their mind on this topic. Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green made the Top 3 at the Miss Universe pageant in Bangkok, Thailand, this morning. Tamaryn was crowned runner up as Miss Philippines took the crown.
Twenty-four-year-old Green, from Paarl in the Western Cape, represented South Africa against contestants from 93 other countries in the competition which was won by Miss Philippines Catriona Gray. Green was one of the front runners throughout the build-up to the finale.
The 67th Miss Universe pageant, which took place at Impact, Muang Thong Thani in Bangkok, Thailand, saw Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa crown her successor at the end of the event.
The show, which was screened in South Africa on 1Magic (DStv channel 103), was hosted by comedian Steve Harvey and supermodel Ashley Graham, while television personality Carson Kressley and runway coach Lu Sierra provided commentary and analysis throughout the event.
Green spoke of her experience: “The Miss Universe experience has been beyond my wildest expectations and I am delighted to have done so well. Congratulations to Catriona. The contestants were wonderful – some I think will be lifelong friends. It has been a true journey of the sisterhood. Thailand is a fantastic country with friendly people who have made us all feel so welcome. We worked hard but what we have received in return is priceless. The support I got really spurred me on. Thank you everyone back home.”
Says Claudia Henkel, Group PR manager Sun International: “We are incredibly proud of Tamaryn and how she has shone on the world stage. She has worked really hard during her reign and in the preparations for Miss Universe and she deserved her Top 3 placement. We look forward to welcoming her home where her Miss South Africa journey continues.”
At the time of winning the Miss South Africa title in May this year, Green was a sixth and final year medical student at the University of Cape Town with her sights set on specialising in paediatrics once she qualifies.
She continued to promote her #BreakTheStigma at Miss Universe which has been hugely successful at raising awareness around TB. Green also travelled to New York in September to speak at the first-ever UN General Assembly high-level meeting on tuberculosis and was invited to speak at the Union Conference on Lung Disease at The Hague where she told her story and her battle with TB.

There is no doubt now that Summer is in full swing and what better way to get in the mood than with some new, stylish looks to suit any occasion.
Benmore Centre has been offering convenience through its world class shopping since 1964 and together with Miladys, invited us for a full, fabulous fashion experience.
Miladys has been around long enough to know what makes women tick and 'believe a good day starts with a good outfit'.
We couldn't agree more!
If you are in the market for a swimsuit or holiday accessories, you really will find that holiday feeling at Miladys with a wide range of styles and stunning prints to suit every style and size. The throws and wraps are exquisite and the perfect accompaniment to any bikini or swimsuit around the pool at home or beach side, if you are lucky enough to spend some summertime there.
This girl was a on a frock mission though and the variety was mind-blowing! Long, short, sparkly, smart, floral, bold, casual, frilly, soft, sexy, pretty...the list goes on and on.
How is a girl to choose? I decided to cover a few eventualities and settled on a casual green print, (almost a bit of a Christmas vibe) T-shirt dress with peekaboo shoulders, so comfortable and light.
My second choice was the stripe look, which is still very much in fashion and the simple belted shirtdress is the perfect addiction to any wardrobe to be dressed up with a pair of heels or a more simple everyday look with some sparkly, summer sandals or sneakers.
The star of my selection has to be the navy, floral, chiffon dress that falls so beautifully and makes me feel like a million bucks! I even wore it to an event that afternoon and got comments from pretty much everyone.
How much can a girl get three dresses for in this day and age, I hear you ask? You may think I am pulling your leg, but, all three came in at a little over R1000, great value!
A shopping experience is always that much more fun when there are a few of you and luckily I had a couple of experts on hand to get opinion on my choices of purchase. My longtime friend and blogger, Heather Hook and the lovely store manager, Emeldah, who both helped with the very difficult choice of what to select to give me my Miladys holiday feels.
Benmore Centre, situated in the heart of Sandton, offers luxurious indulgences to life's everyday necessities featuring a range of stores to suit every need.
Visit Miladys now, open an account and get R1000 in vouchers! You also stand a chance to win a Miladys hamper.

Sunlight Dishwashing Liquid is the number 1 dishwashing liquid brand trusted by South Africans for its ability to cut through the greasiest residue on dirty dishes with just a few drops. Now Sunlight has launched two new dishwashing liquids under the Sunlight Extra range, each with added natural ingredients designed to offer consumers a dishwashing experience with more benefits – one that is inspired by nature.
Sunlight has recognised the shift in consumer consciousness towards a more natural, healthier lifestyle. Bourgeoning stress levels and the resulting illnesses caused by an increasingly demanding lifestyle have made the desire for a more nature-centric lifestyle an increasingly compelling concept. With this in mind, Sunlight is using the launch of their nature-inspired Extra Range, to inspire consumers to bring nature into their daily lifestyle
“As market leaders, Sunlight is embarking on a journey with our consumers – one that honours our customers’ need for efficacious household cleaning products while allowing us to offer them added benefits by adding naturally sourced ingredients,” explains Nobuhle Ngubane of Sunlight South Africa.
Sunlight Extra Anti-Bacterial Dishwashing Liquid contains lactic acid and mint. As an organic compound that is found naturally in our bodies, lactic acid is also a powerful anti-bacterial that is safe and effective for regular household use. Mint has also been used for generations as a natural antibiotic with antiviral, fungicidal and antioxidant properties. The lactic acid ensures that Sunlight Extra Anti-Bacterial kills 99.9% of germs found on a typical kitchen cleaning sponge, leaving you with peace of mind.
In the same way, Sunlight Extra Nature contains added aloe and mineral salts, both of which have been used for generations for their healing and soothing properties. This means that Sunlight Extra Nature is gentle on your hands while being safe for the whole family to use.
“The Sunlight Extra range is just the start of an ongoing long-term plan to lead the environmental agenda for big-name brands in South Africa,” continues Nobuhle “But it is not only about helping our customers move into a more environmentally conscious way of living; it’s also about reminding consumers of the incredible resource we have in nature, and that there is much to be learned and gained by bringing a little more nature into our homes.”

Coffee, from its creation to its consumption, is a craft. The ritualist process of crafting the perfect blend - the care, the commitment, the community around it - is reflected in the experiential value of making and enjoying that perfect cup of coffee. This ritualistic routine is entrenched in our culture - whether enjoying a cup after a long day or pairing it with your favourite cuisine, the moments that coffee makes better are boundless.
The taste sensations of coffee brought to our cups are mastered by craftsmen, and encapsulated by Nespresso’s new Master Origin collection. This finely crafted range coffees include five distinct coffee sensations all inspired by the land from which they originate.
Each of the Master Origin coffees has been on a unique journey of discovery. The Nespresso coffee experts scoured the world to discover the finest coffee sourcing regions, from the forested mountains of Sumatra through to the highland vales of Nicaragua. Within each selected region, Nespresso formed a partnership with the local farming experts and embarked on a mission to test innovative and demanding farming practices, all with the goal of crafting incredible new coffee aromas and tastes.
In Ethiopia, the coffee beans had a meticulous raking every hour by hand to ensure even drying throughout the batches. In Colombia, the typical harvest time was pushed to the limit – each coffee cherry was left on the tree, risking fermentation, until it was exactly the right shade of deep purple to be picked. Over in Sumatra, Indonesia, farmers used a traditional and uniquely local wet-hulling method, whilst in Nicaragua, a sweet approach was taken, using the ‘black honey’ method which involves leaving the coffee bean in its natural fruit layer whilst it is drying to allow it to soak up the natural sugars. The coffee sourced in India experienced an age-old ‘monsoon’ technique that was once a natural occurrence when coffee, historically transported via boat, took on a high level of moisture from the ocean, making the beans swell and reveal a unique new flavour. This process was applied to Master Origin India, where Robusta beans were ‘monsooned’.
Karsten Ranitzsch, the Head of Coffee at Nespresso, explains: “Processing techniques play a hugely important role in the final coffee profile and with the new Master Origin coffees we wanted to expand on this idea further and see how we could use a mix of traditional, new and adapted methods to produce five distinct and original coffees. Together with the local farmers, we took risks and challenged ourselves to achieve these tastes, and this was only made possible thanks to the mutual trust and supportive relationships with the local coffee farmers, established through the Nespresso AAA Sustainable QualityTM Program.
Through this program, we worked closely with knowledgeable and passionate farmers at each origin’s location to master the craft of these origin coffees.”
Master Origin: Indonesia
● Flavour profile: Rich & Woody
● Processing technique: Wet hulling
● The constant humidity in Sumatra has led farmers to hull their beans when still wet, creating a distinctly rich, velvety texture and wild, woody taste.
Master Origin: Ethiopia
● Flavour profile: Flowery & Bright
● Processing technique: Natural dry processing
● The local farmers in Ethiopia have perfected the ancient dry-processing technique over many years, drying their whole coffee cherries in the highland sun to cultivate delicate fruity flavours.
Master Origin: India
● Flavour profile: Intense & Spicy
● Processing technique: Monsoon
● The powerful wet monsoon winds sweep into India’s Malabar coasts for months. Our partner farmers harness their power to cultivate a coffee of incredible intensity.
Master Origin: Nicaragua
● Flavour profile: Sweet & Harmonious
● Processing technique: Black honey
● In the highland vales of Nicaragua, our black honey coffee is hand raked every hour under the hot sun to absorb the sweet flavours from its fruit.
Master Origin: Colombia
● Flavour profile: Fruity & Vibrant
● Processing technique: Late harvest
● We introduced the late-harvest technique to the high forests and rolling hills of Colombia. The coffee is left to mature on the branch much later, and with each new day that dawns, each individual cherry must be assessed and picked only if it’s perfectly ready.
Each of the Master Origin coffees can be enjoyed as an Espresso (40ml) or as a Lungo (110ml) and they will be a permanent addition to the Nespresso coffee range, available from 24 August 2018 from Nespresso Boutiques and Booths worldwide, as well as through orders from the Nespresso Club on 0800 637773 or online at www.buynespresso.com
